Bodas de sangre esta basada en un hecho real que ocurrio en un cortijo de Nijar, Almeria, en 1928. Una novia, el dia de su boda, se deja arrastrar por la pasion y escapa con su novio anterior desencadenando una tragedia «casi animal». Este drama cargado de componentes miticos, legendarios y, por otro lado, tan andaluces, sirvio de punto de inspiracion a Lorca. El tema, tanto en la vida real como en la literatura, no es otro que el amor, los celos, el rencor y la muerte. Es una obra sobre las pasiones contenidas, las imposiciones sociales y las fuerzas violentas del deseo.
